Does OpenFL support Visual Studio 2026?
.
Visual Studio 2026 has been released for several days now,
I would like to ask if OpenFL supports Visual Studio 2026,
Is it compatible? I need to release win exe. Is anyone using OpenFL and Visual Studio 2026?
.
Just in case it’s a misunderstanding, Microsoft Visual Studio 2026 is not the same project as Visual Studio Code.
Visual Studio Code enjoys support for the Haxe and ActionScript 3.0 (syntax highlighting, code completion, etc), with the appropriate extensions installed.
Edit: Or perhaps you mean in terms of building native executables? My apologies, I’d forgotten about this, as I’ve been Linux based for a while now and the build process is a bit different, even when cross-compiling to Windows (no dependency on Microsoft Visual Studio).
I use the Windows 10 system,
Openfl requires a C++environment to release Winexe,
I obtained the C++environment by installing Visual Studio 2019. Can I use Visual Studio 2026? To avoid any issues, I asked in advance.
Sorry about that misunderstanding @785597448.
Just now on a Windows 10 system with freshly installed Haxe (4.3.7), OpenFL (9.5.0) and Visual Studio 2026, I was able to successfully build and run the BunnyMark demo:
openfl test windows
- haxe 4.3.7
- hxcpp 4.3.2
- openfl 9.5.0
First of all, thank you very much for your testing,
I just uninstalled Visual Studio2019,
Then I installed Visual Studio2026, but encountered an unknown error during the installation process. I tried installing it several times but couldn’t install it. I don’t want to tinker anymore and will continue to use Visual Studio2019 ..
My computer was bought in 2011, and the motherboard is still DDR3. It’s an old computer from over 10 years ago. I tried upgrading to Win11 before, but it often froze during use. I suspect that the configuration cannot keep up, so I switched back to Win10
The installer is heavily dependant on the internet, and the installation of Visual Studio 2026 is obscenely huge, even when being minimal with installation options. So the download requirements are very heavy.
Windows 11 excluded support for older hardware, and then proceeded to end-of-life Windows 10, leaving people who are happy with their older hardware with a difficult issue.
To be honest, I’m surprised your 2011 system could even install Windows 11.
I’m not in a rush to upgrade my Windows 10 testbed to Windows 11. Again, I’m not even sure it’d even install anyway, it’s a modest NUC from 2013.
